In 2012 the following inspiring and supportive team will be lending us their creativity and

expertise to help our girls achieve their very best:

L2R: Michaela Bawens, Angie Baker, Stephanie Wigens, Kelly Urquhart

Angie Baker  Principal / President

Angie began her calisthenic career in 1988 with Berwick Calisthenic Club in Victoria, before moving on to join the inaugural Seniors at Ceres Calisthenics College. “Ceres was a real family club, who really invested time on teaching technique along with a strong emphasis on teamwork". My time here I honestly cherish as the group of girls I started with came together and created the Inaugural Seniors team, here I really was blessed with the solid friendships that still grow today.

Then after relocation and university commitments she followed her career to St Marks Calisthenic Club. This was awesome from division 7 to 2 in 5 years, Three aggregate’s at Royal South Street Ballarat. Angie has competed at a State level in both team and solo performances nationally, most recently being a member of the 2008 NSW State Team.

Angie moved to Sydney in 2007, she made her NSW Calisthenic family, allowing her the opportunity to meet new talented and inspiring girls . This gave her the opportunity to begin the newly formed Maverick Academy.

Angie’s love of calisthenics has given her the confidence to travel the world solo along with enjoying solid friendships with cali girls all over the country. “Calisthenics is my hobby, passion and outlet, to dance and perform in a team and create an experience for the audience really gets me going!”

Angie wants to give back to the students at Maverick all the attributes that the sport has taught her and believes that these skills will not only produce fabulous cali students but will also produce students with the confidence to perform in any situation that life may bring.

Angie was appointed National Marketing Director for the Australian Calisthenic Federation (ACF) in 2011, with main focus on grrowing the sport nationally and internationall, starting with the up and coming Inuaugural Pan Pacific Master Games in 2012.

Steph Wigens  Coach / Choreography

Steph stared Calisthenics in 1996 as a Sub-juinior in Karilee Calisthenics, in he ACT. She competed in her first state representative team in 1998 as a Junior. Then in 2000, 2003 as an intermediate, and in 2004 as a senior. She competed in solos from age 16 and represented the ACT twice in graceful girl at nationals.

Steph began coaching the Karilee Sub-juniors in 2000, starting as a class assistant, and eventually in 2006 as head coach. Her most exciting moment was when her sub-junior team won division one at ballarat in 2006. She then coached the Junior ACT repteam in 2007.

Steph has completed and taught the Calisthenics Skills program up to grade 4. Over the years Steph has taught many soloists and have been very proud of all of them. She encourages fun and self development through her coaching and loves to see when each girl can reach up to and beyond their potential.

Steph moved to Sydney in 2007 to begin studying at NIDA. Currently Steph is currently working on the Great Gastby movie with Leonardo Dicaprio.  Steph has lead Maverick seniors to winning state title takers in 2010 and coaches with great skill and leads by example.

Michaela Bauwens  Coach

Michaela is our fairy godmother she started calisthenics at 4 years old in 1990, competing with Maroondah Calisthenics Club (Victoria) for 6 years. In 1996 she moved to Dorset Calisthenics College (Victoria). Michaela progressed through the juniors, inters and seniors sections with the very competitive and successful Dorset team, and was involved as cadet coach with the tinies and sub-juniors teams before taking a “break” from calisthenics to study in 2003.

During her 15 years of calisthenics Michaela has completed her ACF skills exams up to Grade 4, coaching cadetship and is currently undergoing accreditation to become a Level 1 coach. Highlights of Michaela’s years of calisthenics include winning the prestigious Royal South Street Ballarat competition in 1999, and coming runners-up on four other occasions.  "It was also great privilege to travel to Perth represent NSW State Team at the 2008 Nationals Competition".  Michaela has also competed as a soloist in both Victoria and NSW.

NSWCAI is a wonderful friendly, enthusiastic and dedicated group to be involved with. Michaela is really looking forward to helping increase awareness of calisthenics in NSW.

Kelly Urquhart   Choreography

Kelly has participated in calisthenics for the past 28 years in Victoria. For the last 22 years, Kelly has been at Canadian Bay Calisthenics College where she won the Best Club Girl award 3 times and completed her pupil skills up to Grade 4.  Kelly has also represented Victoria in the State Team on 3 occasions and made many friends from all over Victoria.

Kelly’s coaching career started at age 14 at Canadian Bay when she began learning different coaching techniques from some very experienced and talented coaches.  Kelly has taught pupil skills to many girls over the years with a 100% pass rate and also coached many solos over the years to girls of all different ages.

The greatest highlight was being offered the role of head coach of the Canadian Bay Calisthenic Intermediate team by the club’s Principal Coach. Kelly had 2 very successful years with the Inters before moving up to be the head coach of the senior team.

Kelly was sad to leave her calisthenic family at Canadian Bay to move to Sydney but is really excited to be joining such a young and energetic club and is looking forward to being a part of Maverick Academy as it grows and has many more success's into the future.
